Unification Agreed: IBF and WBO Titles on the Line
Newly crowned IBF middleweight champion Aaron McKenna and WBO belt holder Denzel Bentley have agreed to terms for a world title unification bout later this year.
McKenna maintained his undefeated professional record last month in Dublin, capturing the vacant IBF 160-pound belt with a disciplined points victory over Etinosa Oliha. The 6-foot-3 Irishman worked behind a stiff jab, targeting the ribs and controlling distance across twelve grueling rounds to earn the decision on the scorecards.
Bentley's Path to the WBO Crown
Bentley enters the proposed unification following a rapid elevation within the sanctioning body rankings. The London native secured the interim WBO middleweight strap in April by stopping Endry Saavedra before being upgraded to full champion in July when Janibek Alimkhanuly vacated the title.
The matchup pits two established punchers against one another in a bid to consolidate a fragmented 160-pound division that has lacked a clear focal point since the departures of Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez.
Division Trajectory and Next Fixtures
McKenna has stated his ambition to unify the middleweight division entirely before moving through higher weight divisions.
"I will literally fight anyone out there. I just want to unify, whatever it takes, prove I'm the best in the world," McKenna said. "Once I'm done at 160lb, take over 168 and then 175. But by the time I finish out, I plan to have at least one fight at heavyweight."
Official dates, venue selections, and broadcast details for the McKenna vs Bentley world championship clash are expected to be finalized and announced in the coming weeks.
