Johnny Fisher next fight will bring another level, says Dana White

Dana White says Johnny Fisher will reach "another level" in his next fight after the heavyweight gassed late but survived a draining 10-round bout with Michael Pirotton in his Zuffa Boxing debut. White has invited Fisher to train at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas, while Charles Martin's manager has named Fisher as a possible opponent.

Dana White sets the bar for Johnny Fisher

Johnny Fisher next fight expectations have been set high by Zuffa Boxing founder Dana White, who said the heavyweight will reach "another level" after coming through a draining 10-round bout with Michael Pirotton in September.

That bout was Fisher's first under Zuffa Boxing. White's assessment was blunt about the closing rounds and equally clear about what he liked. "He looked good until he started gassing out in the last couple of rounds. But he fought through it, won the fight and I'm excited to see him fight again," White told Sky Sports.

White went further on the commercial side, calling Fisher "fun", his crowd "fun" and his family "good, fun people", adding that he loves having him as part of Zuffa Boxing. The praise came with a diagnosis attached: the conditioning lasted only so long, and both men know it.

Fisher is a hugely popular figure on social media, known for his love of Chinese takeout. That following has made his fights events. What White is questioning is narrower — whether the engine underneath can be rebuilt for a longer, harder night.

Why the UFC Performance Institute matters

White pointed to Fisher's own suggestion that he had overtrained. "I have seen something where he said he overtrained for the fight, which is a possibility. I don't know, only he knows," White said.

The remedy, in White's view, is time in Las Vegas. He invited Fisher to use the UFC Performance Institute, describing it as "an unbelievable amenity you get being a part of our company". "He should absolutely positively come out to Las Vegas and spend some time at the PI," he said. "All the fighters should."

White also framed the September struggle as information rather than damage. "He didn't look terrible. He gassed out there. But I tell you what I really liked about it, when you see a guy gas like he did and you push yourself through, you don't quit and you make it through that, it just takes you to another level for your next fight," he said.

He added that Fisher now knows whether he overtrained or did not train enough, and therefore what he needs to fix. "It'll be exciting to see what tweaks he makes in his training for his next fight."

Charles Martin and Dillian Whyte enter the picture

No opponent has been confirmed, but the options are forming. Dillian Whyte was ringside at the Copper Box for Fisher's last bout, and former IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin is open to boxing Fisher.

Martin's manager Mike Borao told Sky Sports: "He's had an amazing career and became IBF heavyweight champion. He wants one more big opportunity."

Martin lost to Anthony Joshua at the O2 in 2016 and is looking to fight in Britain again next year. Borao named Johnny Fisher and Dillian Whyte as possible opponents, or "perhaps another UK fighter", and said Martin is going to "make one more big push".

For Fisher, the choice is between a name with world-title history and a domestic rival whose presence at ringside was hard to miss. Neither is signed, and White's comments suggest conditioning will shape the decision as much as matchmaking does.

What comes next for Fisher

No date, venue or opponent has been announced for Fisher's return. The clearest timeline in the report belongs to Martin, whose team wants a British date next year.

Sky Sports' next listed boxing card is Chris Billam-Smith vs Cheavon Clarke on November 7 at the Copper Box Arena.
