- Europa League: Every club plays eight fixtures against eight different opponents (four home, four away).
- Conference League: Every club plays six matches against six different sides (three home, three away).
- Draw Rules: Teams cannot be drawn against clubs from their own domestic league and can face a maximum of two opponents from any single nation.
- Knockout Qualification: Finishing in the top eight sends teams straight into the Round of 16. Teams placed 9th to 24th head into a two-legged knockout play-off round, while clubs finishing 25th to 36th are eliminated from Europe entirely.
Which British Teams Are Involved?
In the Europa League, Crystal Palace take their place as reigning Conference League champions, joined directly by Bournemouth, Sunderland, and heavyweights such as AC Milan, Juventus, and Bayer Leverkusen. The remaining spots in the 36-team league phase will be filled via play-off winners and teams dropping down from the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
Over in the Conference League, no team qualifies automatically. British interest could include Brighton, Scottish outfits Rangers, Hearts, Hibernian, and Motherwell, alongside Northern Irish club Larne, pending their final play-off results.
Key Dates and Schedule
Europa League matchdays kick off across September 16–17, running through eight rounds until January 28, 2027. The Conference League league phase begins on October 15 and wraps up on December 17.
The knockout phase for both competitions begins with the play-offs on February 18 and 25, 2027. The Europa League final is scheduled for May 26, 2027, at Stadion Frankfurt in Germany, while the Conference League final will take place on June 2, 2027, at Besiktas Park in Istanbul.
