England Striker Denies Soho Altercation
England forward Ivan Toney has formally pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm following an alleged altercation at a central London nightclub last year.
The 30-year-old striker appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday morning, confirming his name and age before entering his plea. The charge stems from an alleged incident on December 6 at a venue in Soho, where Toney is accused of headbutting and punching Saber Da Silva.
The Legal Process and Next Steps
The case follows an investigation by London's Metropolitan Police, with formal charges announced in late July. Toney arrived at court accompanied by three members of his entourage and was released on unconditional bail.
- Next court appearance: London's Southwark Crown Court on October 29 for a hearing before a judge and jury.
- Official stance: In a statement, a spokesperson for Toney stated: "Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court."
Career Background and Current Status
Toney, who has earned 10 caps and scored one goal for England, missed out on the national squad's recent UEFA Nations League fixtures. The forward began his senior career at Northampton Town and had spells with clubs including Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United before moving to Brentford in 2020.
After scoring 72 goals across a four-year stint with the Bees, Toney completed a high-profile transfer to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ahli in 2024.
