Defending Champions NUNS Maintain Table Dominance

National University-Nazareth School (NUNS) preserved its unblemished record in the UAAP Season 89 High School Girls’ Volleyball Tournament on Sunday, dispatching the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) in a swift 25-13, 25-8, 25-15 sweep at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City. The victory moves the defending champions to 4-0, solidifying their spot atop the league table, while UPIS fell to 1-3 following a third consecutive defeat.

The Lady Bullpups wrapped up the contest in just 56 minutes, propelled by an efficient offensive display from Xyz Rayco, who produced a match-high 14 points on eight attacks, four service aces, and two blocks. Jhaynna Bulandres added balanced support with 10 points (three attacks, four aces, three blocks), while Jaila Adrao chipped in nine. Playmakers Micaella Gould and Irish Mahinay shared distribution duties effectively, logging 11 excellent sets apiece to keep UPIS’s floor defense off balance.

“Anytime ready naman yung mga players namin para hindi naman din sila nabi-bitin. Kita namin sobrang dami nga naming error. So ‘yun ‘yung kailangan naming i-improve pa individually and mga skill na ‘di dapat mangyari. So back to training lang ulit muna,” said NUNS head coach Karl Dimaculangan. “Consistency is how long pa rin at kung gaano ka rin ka-disciplinado.”

Chasers UST and Adamson Move to 3-1 to Protect Top-Four Seeding

Behind the league leaders, University of Santo Tomas (UST) rebounded from its earlier loss to NUNS by controlling the tempo against De La Salle Zobel (DLSZ), securing a 25-23, 25-14, 25-12 sweep. The Junior Golden Tigresses improved their record to 3-1 to remain tied for second place, while DLSZ slipped to 2-2.

UST’s attack distribution featured balanced double-digit scoring, led by Nicole Pelaez (11 points, 10 attacks) and Patricia Mendoza (11 points, eight attacks, three blocks). Former Junior Lady Spiker Erin Sotto added nine points across all scoring facets—three attacks, three blocks, and three service aces—anchoring a decisive 5-0 burst in the third frame. DLSZ’s Aislinn Alemaña tallied a team-high 15 points, all on attacks, but the Junior Lady Spikers struggled with UST's service pressure in the 68-minute encounter.

Adamson University matched UST at 3-1 with an authoritative 25-16, 25-8, 25-8 victory over winless University of the East (0-4). The Lady Baby Falcons required just 52 minutes to complete their third straight win. Ella Gonzalvo delivered 15 points, converting nine attacks alongside six service aces, while Jennica Misajon contributed nine points. Defensively, libero Jarelle Mesa secured the back row with 15 digs and four excellent receptions.

Mid-Table Tightens as FEU-Diliman Sweeps Ateneo

Far Eastern University-Diliman (FEU-D) leveled its campaign at 2-2 to join DLSZ in a tie for fourth place, recording a 25-18, 26-24, 25-15 sweep against Ateneo de Manila University. The Lady Baby Tamaraws relied on the potent wing tandem of MJ Udeagbala, who posted a match-high 17 points on 16 attacks, and Joeyana Bongo, who recorded 15 points with 12 attacks and three aces.

Setter Charlene Balandra conducted FEU-D's offense with 18 excellent sets, while Querstin Paragas stabilized floor operations with 14 digs and six receptions. Jhenica Sadia led Ateneo with 12 points, but the Blue Eagles dropped to 1-3, remaining level with UPIS in a tie for sixth place as the first-round qualification picture begins to take shape.
