Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl said on Wednesday. The Kompany health update follows his collapse at the club's training ground during a second-team session last week and his subsequent admission to hospital.
Eberl said a meningeal irritation caused the incident. He spoke to broadcaster ARD before Bayern's German Cup match against Magdeburg, which the Bundesliga leaders won 6-1.
Kompany health update
Eberl called the discharge the best available news for the club. He said Kompany will now rest and take medication, and that he expects the Belgian back on the touchline at full capacity soon.

"Given the circumstances, he's doing well," Eberl said. "He was discharged from the hospital today. That is the biggest and best news for all of us. It's a meningeal irritation that caused this incident on Friday. He will now rest and take medication and I am certain that he will very soon be back on the touchline, operating at 100 per cent."
Kompany had missed media duties before Bayern's Champions League match against Arsenal because of a viral infection. He was in the dugout for the 2-2 draw.
Bayern have not attached a recovery prognosis beyond Eberl's expectation that Kompany will return operating at 100 per cent. The meningeal irritation is the cause the club has given publicly for the collapse.
Bayern Munich interim setup under Aaron Danks
Assistant coach Aaron Danks has taken charge of the team. He was on the bench for the 3-1 win at Freiburg at the weekend and again for the 6-1 cup win over Magdeburg.
Danks said his working relationship with Kompany has not changed materially. He has not spoken to the head coach for a couple of days.
"I haven't spoken to him for a couple of days now so I still think not much has changed in terms of our working relationship at the moment," Danks said. "His health is our number one priority and for us he is still in recovery mode so we want him to get back to full health, full fitness and then join us."
No timeline set for Kompany's return
Eberl said Kompany will resume his duties only after receiving medical clearance. Danks repeated that position after the Magdeburg win, saying no timescale had been given to him.
- Discharged from hospital on Wednesday, per Max Eberl.
- Cause given for the collapse: meningeal irritation.
- Treatment: rest and medication.
- Condition for returning to work: medical clearance, with no date set.
"I still don't feel like there is any timeline on it," Danks said. "It's obviously a really positive step in his road to recovery. He gets to settle back at home now, be closer to his family, be closer to his home comforts but it's still really important that he takes his rest and he recovers. So there is no timescale on it."
Danks said the club's doctors will continue to work closely with Kompany and that the players and staff will keep pushing forward as a group in the meantime. He said the absence of a timeline reflected what he had been told and been informed by the club.
Eberl spoke before kick-off against Magdeburg; Danks spoke after the final whistle. Both described the same condition for a return: clearance from the club's medical staff.
What to watch next at Bayern Munich
Bayern face title rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. Danks has taken charge of the team and no return date has been set for Kompany, leaving the dugout arrangement for that fixture open.
Danks remains in charge of team matters until the medical staff clear Kompany for work. Kompany's own comments have not been published since the collapse.
