Pocognoli Confirms First Scotland Selection
Head coach Sebastien Pocognoli has named his first squad for Scotland's upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures. Five uncapped players enter the senior international setup: Sevilla striker Robbie Ure, Brøndby central defender Luis Binks, Celtic fullback Colby Donovan, Hearts winger Josh McPake, and Swansea City defender Stephen Welsh.
The selection marks a functional restructuring of defensive and forward lines ahead of Scotland's opening fixture against Slovenia on September 26.
Injury Update and Roster Movements
Several primary tactical assets are unavailable due to verified physical setbacks:
- Scott McTominay: Missing from the midfield pool while recovering from minor heart surgery.
- Lawrence Shankland: Sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
- Che Adams: Out of contention due to an ongoing injury problem.
Conversely, Napoli midfielder Billy Gilmour returns to the squad. Gilmour missed the World Cup following a knee injury but has recorded consecutive 90-minute appearances against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League and Bologna in Serie A. In goal, Scott Bain and Jon McCracken re-enter the pool following the international retirement of Craig Gordon. Hull City forward Oli McBurnie earns his first international recall since 2021.
