Nxled outlasts Farm Fresh in grueling five-set showdown
Nxled outlasts Farm Fresh in a chaotic fifth-set thriller! The Chameleons survived a furious fightback from the Farm Fresh Foxies, taking a 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 20-25, 15-12 victory in the PVL All-Filipino Conference Siklab Series at the Filoil Centre.
After racing to a comfortable two-set lead, Nxled hit a wall. Farm Fresh battled all the way back to force a decider, pushing the Chameleons to the absolute brink! But Nxled stood tall behind veteran poise and an impenetrable net defense.
Dominant net defense keeps Chameleons in control
The defensive effort at the net was pure artistry from Nxled! The Chameleons put up a staggering 23 blocks across five grueling sets, completely overwhelming the Foxies, who managed just six blocks throughout the entire contest.
That blocking wall repeatedly snuffed out Farm Fresh runs during the opening frames. Even when the Foxies found their rhythm to steal the third and fourth sets, Nxled leaned right back on that front-line presence to stay steady.
Myla Pablo takes over in the clutch decider
Brooke Van Sickle took home Best Player of the Game honors, but veteran hitter Myla Pablo delivered the ultimate dagger! Nxled fell into an early 0-2 hole in the fifth set before clawing back to level terms at 5-5.
The teams traded punches through four more deadlocks until Van Sickle uncorked three straight hits to give Nxled an 8-7 lead at the changeover. MJ Phillips then broke a 9-9 tie with a clean putaway off an overpass, followed by a Ces Molina attack error that handed Nxled an 11-9 cushion.
That was Pablo’s cue to take over! The seasoned outside spiker hammered home three consecutive points, scoring Nxled’s final four markers to shut the door on the Foxies and ice the match!
Chameleons join Choco Mucho and Creamline at the top
The thrilling win moves Nxled to a perfect 2-0 record in the conference. Farm Fresh drops to 1-1 after coming up just short of pulling off an incredible reverse sweep.
Elsewhere in the tournament, powerhouse Creamline recovered from a 27-29 first-set stumble against Galeries Tower to take the match 27-29, 25-18, 25-19, 25-18. That result creates an exciting three-way tie at the top of the standings between Nxled, Choco Mucho, and Creamline!
