Record Margin and Quarterfinal Qualification
The NLEX Road Warriors secured a place in the PBA Season 50 Governors' Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday, recording a 138-78 victory over the Macau Giant Pandas at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. The 60-point differential represents the largest winning margin in Philippine Basketball Association history, surpassing previous league benchmarks.
The result elevated NLEX to solo first place in Group A with an 8-2 record, confirming their postseason progression and providing a response following a loss to Converge prior to the league's extended break.
Roster Adjustments and Key Performers
A central factor in NLEX's performance was the immediate impact of replacement import Deonte Burton, who was signed to fill in following an injury to DeQuan Jones. Burton registered 22 points, 14 rebounds, eight assists, six steals, and two blocks, with all of his scoring output arriving in the first half as NLEX established a 70-43 lead by the interval.

NLEX demonstrated balanced offensive contributions across the roster. Schonny Winston led all Road Warriors scorers with 25 points, while Robert Bolick added 14. Kevin Alas and LJay Gonzales contributed 10 points apiece. In the third quarter, Winston and Anthony Semerad helped push the lead to 105-61, before Gonzales and Xyrus Torres closed the fourth quarter, with Torres connecting on three consecutive three-pointers.
"Really happy with the win. Anytime you come out of a 52-day break and, especially tonight with Macau, I felt going into the game very similar to the first time we played them," said NLEX head coach Jimmy Alapag. "We didn't know what their lineup was. There are so many players, so my message to the guys was that we know what we are preparing for."
Macau's Shorthanded Lineup
While NLEX executed efficiently, the outcome was substantially influenced by the personnel challenges facing Macau. The Giant Pandas entered the contest without head coach Marcus Elliott and were missing key rotation regulars Damian Chongqui, Ramon Cao, and Jenning Leung. Kobey Lam remained the lone retained member from their primary domestic core.
Despite the deficit, new import Oscar Lopez delivered 36 points, 13 rebounds, and two assists for Macau, while Lam finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. However, the lack of depth limited their capacity to sustain defensive resistance over 48 minutes, dropping Macau to an eighth defeat in 10 games (2-8).
Group Standings and Next Phase
The victory solidifies NLEX's positioning at the top of Group A as the Governors' Cup moves toward the knockout stages. For NLEX, Burton's integration offers a stable resolution to their import situation following Jones' injury update, while Macau faces a challenging conclusion to their campaign amid significant roster constraints.
