Ask how much a PBA player earns and you will get two answers that cannot both be right. The league's uniform player contract caps base salary at ₱420,000 a month. Social media lists of the highest-paid players routinely put June Mar Fajardo above ₱70 million a year. That is more than ten times the cap.
Both figures circulate widely. Only one of them is a rule.
What is the PBA salary cap?
Players sign a uniform contract, and that contract sets a maximum base salary of ₱420,000 per month. The Philippine Star reported the figure directly in December 2023, and it has been repeated consistently since. Over a full year that works out to a little over ₱5 million in base pay.
The cap is per player, not per team, and it applies to the contract a player signs with his ball club. A contract runs for a minimum of one month, which is what allows teams to move players in and out of the roster between conferences.
How much do PBA players actually make?
Base salary is the floor of the conversation, not the ceiling. A player's total earnings come from several places at once:
- Base contract — capped at ₱420,000 monthly.
- Conference and championship bonuses — paid by the team, and by the league for individual awards. Fajardo's eleventh Best Player of the Conference award came with ₱50,000 from sponsors Arena Plus and Pocari Sweat alongside the trophy.
- Endorsements — the largest variable, and entirely outside the contract. A player with national recognition can earn more from brand deals than from basketball.
That third line is what separates a rank-and-file player from a marquee name. The cap governs what a team may pay. It does not govern what a shoe company, a telco or a fast-food chain may pay.
Who is the highest-paid PBA player?
Fajardo is consistently named first. Widely circulated lists put his annual earnings at around ₱75 million, with Japeth Aguilar and Stanley Pringle following. Those figures come from social media compilations and secondary outlets rather than from the league or the clubs, and no team publishes player pay.
Treat them as estimates. They almost certainly bundle endorsement income with basketball income, and there is no published breakdown separating the two.
How much is June Mar Fajardo's salary?
His salary — the contract portion — cannot exceed the cap. His earnings are reported to be many times larger. The distinction matters, because the two words get used interchangeably and produce a number that looks impossible.
There is a third element that neither the cap nor the endorsement column accounts for. SPIN.ph has reported that deals outside the official contract are common in the league, and that the highest single-player salary ever revealed to its sources reached roughly $26,000 — several times what the uniform contract permits.
The people running teams do not treat the cap as a settled question either. In August 2026, former PBA chairman and Alaska governor Dickie Bachmann publicly argued that the players' salary cap should be lifted altogether and a strict team spending cap enforced in its place, so clubs could compete for talent against the Japanese B.League and the Korean KBL. That is not an argument a league has if the published cap already describes what everyone is paid.
What does the average PBA player earn?
Far less than the headline names, though no one publishes the figure. Most of a twelve-man roster is not on a maximum contract, and rookies drafted outside the first few picks sign for a fraction of the cap. What can be said with confidence is structural rather than numerical: the cap is a ceiling almost nobody reaches, and the majority of a roster earns without any endorsement income at all.
The gap between the top and the middle of a PBA roster is wider than the gap between the middle and the bottom. A handful of players earn like celebrities. The rest earn like well-paid professionals in a small domestic league.
Why the numbers will keep disagreeing
Until clubs publish contracts, the honest answer to "how much does a PBA player make" is a range with a documented ceiling on one component and estimates on the rest. The ₱420,000 cap is real and verifiable. The ₱75 million figure is plausible as total earnings and unverifiable as salary. Anyone presenting either one as the whole picture is leaving something out.
