Heartbreak for Alas Pilipinas in Classification Match
The intensity was off the charts, but Alas Pilipinas Men came up just short in a four-set thriller against regional rivals Indonesia, dropping a tight 25-23, 24-26, 25-22, 25-21 decision on Thursday in Japan at the 2026 Asian Games men’s volleyball tournament.
Every single set was a grind! After dropping a nail-biting opener by two points, the Philippine squad showed serious grit in the second frame. Trailing 23-21 late in the set, Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo delivered clutch back-to-back hits to knot things up. Indonesia managed to push toward set point, but Josh Magalaman stood tall before Espejo fired a massive service ace to snatch the frame at 26-24 and level the match.
Indonesia Closes Out Despite Filipino Push
The Philippines continued to trade blows with Indonesia across the third and fourth frames, staying within striking distance the entire way. However, Indonesia found the finishing touches when it mattered most to close out both sets and secure the victory.

Leo Ordiales paced the scoring for the Philippines with 13 points, while Espejo and Michaelo Buddin contributed 11 points each. For Indonesia, Arnez Boy proved lethal at the net with a match-high 20 points, supported by Nibras Fauzan who chipped in 17.
